A subtle but very positive step is parents actively watching out for young children's mental health instead of being in denial and sweeping everything under the carpet as "just a phase". Today a patient asked for a lead for a child counsellor because her 7 yr old has anger issues
They moved to Mumbai just before lockdown in March'20 and then the couple had another kid so the kid has practically had no chance to make new friends and also has jealousy issues about the sibling. The mother is not from a big city, but had the sense to seek help. Kudos to her
@satankinani Glad people aren’t just saying teach them karate and meditation 👍🏼
@satankinani Unfortunately we want couples to have babies soon but don't train them to become parents. We are not raising kids for a time for which our parents raised us. So it involves lot of emotional parenting as well within nuclear family. Single child culture is anyways affecting
@satankinani I found a boy who came to me for French help very agitated. Told that to the parent and suggested taking him to a counsellor. They took him to one and the counsellor said he was OK. Very embarrassed. Reading a lot on psychiatry these days and finding how wrong I can be!
@satankinani Saw a 7-10 year old boy outside a psychiatrist's clinic. Lady who brought him was asking on the phone -- what is the problem? What should I tell the doctor? Was tempted to ask her why she brought him here? I don't think it was for mobile addiction.
@satankinani I think if parents /family are able to devote quality time to kids, taking 7 yo to a counselor is going overboard... Too young an age for any mental health issue, unless abused or something similar...
