A strong supercell thunderstorm tracked 300 km over 4 hours across S AB last night. With it came golf ball hail and severe wind gusts in excess of 130 km/h. The storm caused multiple power outages and ultimately a brief closure of Hwy 1 and 36. ow.ly/uz1q50WJV9V #abstorm
Severe thunderstorms are possible across central and southern AB today. Storms will form this afternoon along the Foothills & on a cold front/trough near the SK border and will track to the east in the evening hours. #abstorm
Rain/thunderstorms will move through AB today. There is potential for severe storms in the east and southeast areas. Damaging wind is the main threat, although all TS hazards are also possible: heavy rain, large hail and possibly a tornado. Have a way to receive alerts! #abstorm
Showers and thunderstorms are expected today in central Alberta, with total precipitation amounts up to 50-75 mm possible towards Edson, Whitecourt and Swan Hills. Additionally, east-central Alberta could also see funnel clouds today, so keep an eye on the sky! #abstorm
After an active long weekend, the risk of thunderstorms continue for the foothills today, with the chance of severe storms from Milk River to Stony Plain. When thunder roars, go indoors! #abstorm
