Historic day for moving to the next level of ambition: today EU Member States authorised the High Representative and the European Commission to launch negotiations on a Strategic Partnership Agreement with each of the GCC countries. Happy to contribute to make this a success!

Removal from the #EU list of high-risk countries, proposed by EU #Commission and approved by the #EP, recognizes #UAE efforts to improve its #AML/CTF regime. We will continue to address jointly these challenges, and strengthen cooperation.
The EU stands in solidarity with all those affected, including Qatar last night. This is the moment to return to the negotiating table. Let this be a turning point for the whole region. I will continue to work towards this end with all sides. (2/2)
The announced reprieve in fighting between Israel and Iran is good news but remains fragile. All sides should stand by this and refrain from further violence. All further escalation must be avoided. (1/2)

The situation in the Middle East is dangerous. I urge all parties to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation. Diplomacy remains the best path forward, and I stand ready to support any diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation.
