Biology can capture carbon, make building materials, advanced materials, cosmetics, new foods, and more. In my view biology is the place where AI can deliver the most good for human beings.

We should be excited if AI can write DNA -- DNA code is behind half of the new medicines developed every year (biologics, cell & gene therapies, antibodies, and more). It is behind the most important agricultural innovations in the last 30 years that keep us fed.

Humans can't read DNA code well and we really can't write it well. So with enough data, AI is going to learn to read and write DNA much better than humans. AI is way more likely to beat us at writing DNA than to beat us at writing legal text or novels.

DNA 🧬is the language of biology and the 'books' are the genomes of every organism out in nature. 🍍🌴🦠🐄🪿🐙🐋🐍🕷️🐞 So we're going to do the same thing, train a really, really big neural net on as many books as we can give it, so that it can speak the language of DNA.

Gaining consensus is different from seeking input. Get lots of varied inputs. Curiously listen. Then be decisive. Don’t seek consensus. The habit of seeking unanimous consensus as the norm sets an unhealthy precedent. Let many people weigh in but only let very few people decide.
