The Finer Coffee filter basket is unique in having a curved bottom but a flat interior. I look a look to see how it performed for taste. It matched performance of the Wafo Spirit for my style of shots and was better for the sour component. medium.com/@rmckeon/finer…

Coffee solubles don’t dissolve instantly, and their rate of dissolution is driven by temperature and time. I wanted to peak more into how quickly they dissolve which better explains why thermal flow through the puck is so important for espresso. rmckeon.medium.com/how-soluble-ar…

I explored heat soaking (50C) roasted coffee beans just after the roast, and I found an improvement in taste. I’m curious if anyone else has tried doing something similar. I thought it might make the beans taste baked, but it did not. rmckeon.medium.com/initial-testin…

Be careful cleaning espresso filters and shower screens with microfiber cloths. I discovered my Wafo Spirit filter basket was clogged by a combination of microfibers and coffee grounds. medium.com/@rmckeon/micro…

I compared the Momentem grinder and the SPK 58 grinder out of the convenience of having them at the same time. The momentum grinder barely beat out the SPK 58, and my suspicion is it’s really the chaff collector. rmckeon.medium.com/coffee-grinder…
