When Iryna first joined FATIMA, she was nervous to speak Polish but shared that her dream was "to get a feeling that Poland is my home". A year later, she is confident reading Polish books and attends another mentoring project alongside Polish participants.

After moving to Wroclaw from the Crimean war zone, Svetlana struggled to settle in and make friends. FATIMA's language course has helped her find office work in a university, where she works and socialises with many people and has been able to rebuild her confidence.

Language teachers make their classes as practical and interactive as possible. 5 students in Madrid went to the grocery store with their teacher to learn vocabulary and practice requesting an order. The trip was very popular and inspired later visits to the city centre.

Nadia came to Poland from Lviv last year. Since enrolling with FATIMA, she has learnt Polish, passed her Medical Licensing Exam and is currently preparing to start her hospital residency. We are so proud to have supported Nadia on her journey.

Since the beginning of the project, @BaytreeCentre has: 📖taught 1,203 hours of ESOL classes 📝submitted students for a total of 276 Accredited Pearson Edexcel Exams 📚helped 81% of learners feel more confident speaking English with family and friends

In celebration of International Women's Day, students at Panorama did a clothes swap. Despite having different styles and sizes, they were still able to spend hour chatting and drinking tea with other students and volunteers.

Panorama found that some students couldn't attend every language class due to long working hours or responsibilities at home. By allowing students to attend some classes and catch up on their own or with one-to-one support from volunteers, no one was excluded from learning.

Obtaining a driving license can be a confusing and complex process 🚗 Students with Sursum attended a talk on how to obtain a Slovenian driving license, which is a long process in the Slovenian Public Administration.

Ongoing feedback means that the FATIMA Project is able to continuously reflect and improve its work. Sursum recently held a questionnaire and discussion to understand which classes students found useful, and what more they would like to attend.

It's important to make sure lessons are extended beyond the classroom and made applicable to the real world. Group excursions to historically and culturally significant sites help reinforce learning and can be a really fun bonding experience for students, teachers and mentors.
