Hawksbills are Critically Endangered around the world by the IUCN Red List and are listed as Endangered in the US. The primary reason for their status is the global trade of ‘tortoiseshell’ products made from their beautiful shell. #SeaTurtleWeek #TooRareToWear #Hawksbill

From a low of a few 100 turtles,years of work protecting beaches&improving fishin gear,there are now more than 10k in the Gulf of Mexico&along the East Coast.They’re not out of the woods yet,the impact of the BP oil spill appears to be reducing their numbers again.#SeaTurtleWeek
