What made letting go easier for me is realising I was never the problem. Some ppl don’t want love; they want freedom from accountability, expectations, from the weight of consistency. They’ll entertain you for as long as your boundaries and standards are low.

Nobody talks about how hard it is to be loved properly after surviving toxic love. Your body flinches at safety, your mind waits for the switch up, & peace feels like a setup. Not bc you don’t want love, but bc your nervous system is still wired for war.

yes toxic relationships are hard but do you know what else is hard? your first healthy relationship after a toxic one. no one talks about how hard it is to unlearn all the toxic behaviors you adapted as coping mechanisms. how hard it is to convince yourself that you're safe now.

trauma doesn't make people stronger. it damages their nervous system. it hijacks their digestive track. it keeps the person in a constant loop of hypervigilance. to tell someone they are stronger because of trauma is to deny what it has cost them to survive.

as I grew older, i learned that the key to surviving the day isn't positivity, it's acceptance. accepting that not all days are good and happy, you will have bad days, you make mistakes, you fail, you mess up, everything's not going to fall into place and that's okay.
