BREAKING: Canada's food inflation declines further in March, falling to 3.0%, with retail food purchases dropping to 1.9% and restaurant food prices at 5.1%.
Food inflation in Canada has reached its lowest level since August 2021. The gap between core inflation and food inflation is now just 0.1%, the narrowest since November 2021.
@FoodProfessor Falling/dropping is misleading. Its suggest prices are going down. Food inflation increased by 3.0%. I point this out because people misinterpret the data and use you as the source.
@FoodProfessor The rate of increases are slowing? Is that a positive?
@FoodProfessor Wow thanks! I had no idea groceries were less now.
@FoodProfessor How much of that drop is loss leaders meant to solely drive more traffic to QSR
@FoodProfessor There's a passage in 1984 where every time the price of chocolate goes up, the Ministry of Plenty announces that it has actually gone down. I'm reminded of 1984 every time I read your posts.
