There are in fact thousands of these words that are cognates from english to spanish.
Another example would be the word graduate in english, which translates into graduar in spanish.
So since you know the word "cancelation" in english you already basically know the word in spanish, which is cancelacion.
A great way to learn spanish is to learn all of the cognates, or words that sound the same and mean the same thing.
Another example would be pescado, the spanish word for fish. Imagine yourself trying to catch the "pesky" fish with your bare hands.
So for instance in Spanish the word for bread is pan. So if you picture yourself cooking bread in a pan, then you can remember the word.
One of the best ways to learn new words in a language is to associate pictures with words that sound like a word you know in your own.
