Fraction talk in tiger pride colors! How many red in the whole? How many white? Blue? What do you notice? If orange is 1/2, what could 1 look like?
How do you see 1/2? What fraction is green? Blue? Purple? Can you find 2 regions that are a different shape but the same fraction? What ?s would you pose?
If the cross = 1, how much is the big square? How do you know? If the big square = 1, what fraction is the cross? Thank you first responders!
What do you notice? What do you wonder? How many ways do you see 1/4? What if 1=teal+yellow? What fraction is gray? What other questions could you ask?

Made my great-grandmother’s banana nut bread from my nursery school cookbook w/ my daughter. We had 1.5 c of squishy bananas instead of 1. Me: How could we adjust to use all bananas? Kid: Would we multiply everything by 1.5? Me: Yep Kid: Did you do that on purpose?! Me: 😁

4th graders are placing fractions on a number line and comparing values to benchmarks (0, 1/2, 1). Rich thinking: 3/8 < 4/10 as 3/8 is 1/8 from 1/2 but 4/10 is only 1/10 away. 1/6 is closer to 1/8 than 1/4 as it is 1/24 from 1/8 but 2/24 from 1/4.
