Parents in the US who care about their children’s math: this is an average math test for 5th grade in Serbian elementary school. Don’t worry about Cyrillic words for “Solve the problems”: but look at the level of equalities and inequalities and rational numbers. Again: kids age 10 and 11 are able to solve this. Can American children age 10 solve this?
@GSchifanelli ✅ I thought that looked like routine curriculum in our district, I asked the 8th grader, she said maybe fourth definitely fifth.
@GSchifanelli We returned to Serbia for a year when I was in grade 5 and came back to Canada looking like a genius . It wasn’t only math.
@GSchifanelli Anecdote time-25 years ago our neighbors realized how far behind their children were compared to their native Austrian 🇦🇹 schools, so took the kids out at the end of April each year, flew back to 🇦🇹 and enrolled them in their local village school for two months.
@GSchifanelli That made me call my cousin And this is today's test for a Serbian fifth grader Awesome Serbian schools kick ass
@GSchifanelli Mathematics is not for everyone. Teaching someone to calculate is fine, but not this. Do you think that all children in Serbia master this material?
