I had a telephone conversation with Mr. @UNReliefChief, UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Sudan and ways to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population. I discussed with Mr. Griffiths the process of facilitating entry for humanitarian aid convoys through Gezeira State to the states of Kordofan, Darfur, White Nile, and Khartoum, and other areas in Sudan. I also emphasized to Mr. Griffiths the importance of humanitarian organizations maintaining a sustainable presence in Kordofan and Darfur, as there is an urgent need for humanitarian operations in these areas. Our discussion also addressed the need to bolster efforts to safeguard civilians in the areas under our protection. For our part, I underscored our firm commitment to international humanitarian law, protecting civilians, and fostering collaboration with all humanitarian organizations to facilitate and support their work in these localities. We express our deepest gratitude to the under-secretary-general for his diligent focus on the crisis in Sudan and his ongoing work to support the people of our country. We anticipate a redoubling of these efforts, and hope that additional support will be allocated to Sudan to help alleviate the hardship endured by our people.

There is a country on the continent of Africa called Sudan, in which an internal war is taking place between loose militias called the Rapid Support against the Sudanese National Army. Ten months ago, nearly eight million citizens were displaced and 176,000 died on both sides. Follow me to know the details.
