In one of the first days of one of my first Web Dev classes (15 years ago), I had a professor that said: "If you don't have an analytical mind, you won't make it far in programming." That really stuck with me. It helped lead my thinking and logic moving forward in my career.

There are a lot of AI posts. All of the accounts that actually comment are: "AI Guru, AI Master, AI App" Irony is, none of them are providing anything real. Stop reading about the next AI tool list and learn something. You have to start to understand. Start with HTML + CSS.

I didn't start my web development company to slay. I got into it so I could manage my own time. I spent a lot of time early on building a custom CMS for my clients to edit most of their own content to be mostly self sufficient. Now I just find new clients and repeat.

I've noticed there is a lot of "Web Development is dead because of AI!" I think that is a long way away from being true. There will always be a small business, construction company, restaurant, etc, that doesn't want to touch a computer but still needs help. Keep learning.

I was just talking with a designer about how horrible of a footer that this other website had. He goes "Yeah but you love a good footer, some might say you have a Footer Fetish"... we both stopped breathing for a bit after that.

I read something recently that said "Be a Guide not a Guru" and that stuck with me. My interpretation is: Guides genuinely want to help people with their knowledge, Guru's want to flex their knowledge.

I hate page breaks in Google Docs because I hardly ever actually print anything on paper. File > Page Setup > Pageless 🤩 Now I can type forever without adjusting formatting!!

Here is a quick reminder to clean your mouse pad and bottom of your mouse. Just cleaned mine and oh man, it didn't look as dirty as it was. The mouse slides MUCH better now too. Bonus: Any old school PC gamers still use a FUNC pad?

Been using NetBeans for 15+ years for front end and back end web dev. Just what I know. Thinking of switching. Also about to move from Windows to iOS for my main work machine. VSCode or JetBrains? Thoughts?

Stop trying to learn about the newest AI tools. All that means is you are trying to find the easy way out. You need to learn the process before you can add the short cuts. Challenge yourself and build a landing page for a local small business. Location, Hours, Contact Info.

New Dev Challenge: Research and find a small local construction company and pretend they just hired you to build a new website. Sitemap and then wireframe what you think this company needs for a site. Keep it simple! This is step one. Before any code or design. Go.

Just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean it's wrong.

Does anyone have one of the new Mac Mini's (M2 Pro)? If so, what do you think? I am thinking about swapping my PC for one of these for my main work PC. The M2 Pro version is the only one that can have 3 monitors connected and I need 3 monitors. $1,300 isn't bad IMO...
