@GithubProjects Self-hosting offers control, but open-source empowers collaborative innovation. Each has its own distinct advantages.
@GithubProjects Yes, maybe true in most cases, but the opposite is also true sometimes.
@GithubProjects Totally. Source-available is often confused with true open source. The license is the key
It certainly is. For example my LocalTube github.com/EdgeOfAssembly… is totally open source and you can self-host it in as many machines as you like. Heck, I made it even public domain so you don't need to worry about licenses. (that reminds me, need to finally give it some pretty skin & some basic setting menu in coming weekend...)
@GithubProjects Sure it does. I self host at localhost all the time. If you can access the code, you can have it for free and do what you want to with it. For real. I won't stop you.
@GithubProjects && "open-source" != "the code used by the company"
@GithubProjects teamspeak sadly taught me that the hard way😔
@GithubProjects What if I host using a cloud service
@GithubProjects Absolutely, this distinction is so important! Just because something is self-hosted doesn’t automatically make it open-source. Clarity here helps everyone make better tech decisions 🙌💡
@GithubProjects Open source and source available confuse a lot of people. Then we haver self host. Open source being much more than the name itself means, it is very confusing
@GithubProjects Huh? They have nothing to do with each other. If the source code is available, then it's technically open to the public. What you want to do with it is a whole new story. Don't like the license, then do like the legends (Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds, ....) & make your own.
@GithubProjects in fact, most of llms are. then opened model so that we can self-host, but i think its not totally open-sourced

@GithubProjects Github will become a parasite on Open Source
