We looked into the impact of H. pylori bacterial EVs on AD pathology. We show that these EVs exacerbate Aβ pathology, which may be at least in part due to reduced Aβ clearance by microglia. The H. pylori bacterial EVs induced effects can be blocked by C3aRA treatment.

Next, we show that H. pylori EVs increase glial reactivity in wild type mice and that C3-C3aR signaling is an important pathway for this process. Moreover, the microglial activation leads to excessive synaptic pruning and contributes to neuronal dysfunction.

Check out our latest paper in #JEV by @JunhuaXie , in which we show that Helicobacter pylori-derived bacterial #extracellularVesicles (EVs) have detrimental effects on brain functionality and accelerates #Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis via C3-C3aR signaling.
