@Citizen004 Thanks for the comment. There is a line item for revenue on our balance sheet. Yes, we could simply provide free transit for any group or all people, but then the revenue line item needs to be made up through property taxes. So it’s not just as simple as make it free.
@Citizen004 ETS operates on an approximately 40% cost recovery ratio. We can absolutely decrease that ratio but then we make it up through property taxes. So I don’t think it’s spin, it’s just ensuring we are accounting for the revenue and expenses in our balance sheet.
@Russty1105 @ian_doktor See thread from Councillor @AndrewKnack. The province has eliminated funding that was budgeted to cover the program. This now reduces the revenue ETS brings in and has to be made up somewhere if the program were to continue.

@Russty1105 There are tons of programs run in municipalities that are supported by the province. Besides, the province funded the YYC arena. Tax.payer dollars from all across the province are going to support that municipal project. Which helps billionaires in Calgary make more $.
@jobin_neil I mean, it is actually possible to be critical of BOTH a municipal and provincial government at the same time.
@jobin_neil Punching down is really what I take issue with. Supporting billionaires in their quest to make millions more is less important to the GoA than supporting poor seniors who otherwise have no way to get around.
@MadLadMarcin No, but like many municipal programs and capital projects (like the Calgary arena) they are partially funded by the province.
