The city is confirming to @CTVToronto that at least half of the residents who were cleared from the Clarence Square encampment yesterday returned just hours later. toronto.ctvnews.ca/at-least-half-…
Advocates said this was to be expected. “That’s how these stories go,” @djjohnso told me. “The answer to homelessness is not policing or hiding the problem or insisting that shelters are the answer, even though they are clearly not. The answer is what works for people.”
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto It’s almost like they had no where else to go…weird.
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto Addressing homelessness in a meaningful way is important. These people deserve lives with dignity, and access to Healthcare. Pretending that allowing people to camp in parks, with no progress being made in any ways towards getting themselves out of this situation- is absurd.
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto Letting people live outside with no sanitation is not harm reduction, it's harm perpetuation. Let's help them, but also get real. There's going to have to be compromises, and you might not be able to live in a park with your friends just because you feel comfortable with that
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto This allows people to back absolutely no solution, and call it a solution. It also risks an endgame where there are no longer any attempts to convince people to take any shelter, but rather accept that this is what it is, and no help is even offered anymore.
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto Living in a park, is not a solution. And maybe a hotel is not a solution either, but it's a start. Refusing any and all housing solutions available in lieu of living in a park is not how this gets fixed.
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto I guess Toronto jails are broken, Tory must really want his city to be like Seattle.
@HannahAlberga @losinghopein @CTVToronto Of course! Where do you want them to go! Good God, @JohnTory use your head! They need supports, housing It's not rocket science buddy!
@HannahAlberga @cristina_CP24 @CTVToronto If the city has money to manage senior homes why can't they manage housing for homeless people? easily build 1 to 2 condo buildings and give a small apartment to help that person get off their feet and back into society
@HannahAlberga @CTVToronto They can’t stay in the park, and it’s ridiculous to suggest that they can.
