Feeling Broken... This stood out to me on my first ever visit to Colwick, and I still go straight to it every time. The broken headstone of Elizabeth. Some say she roams the Churchyard in dismay after her headstone was damaged whilst being moved. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

Colwick Old Church... This Grade II listed ruin was originally built by the Byron family in the 16th century. It incorporates parts of an earlier church dating as far back as the 14th century. In 1936 it was finally closed as it was deemed unsafe. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

The End... It's time to move onto the next location and say goodbye to Bestwood Lodge. It really is unique, from King's affairs to fallen soldiers, from tales of love and untimely deaths. We are truly lucky to have this haunted gem in our county! 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

Staking Her Claim... The King had told Nell Gwynn that their son would be granted all of the land she could ride before breakfast. Nell set off early, leaving the King uttering "I can’t believe it! You have taken my best wood (Bestwood)" 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

The Orange Lady... She started life living and working in her Mother's brothel in London, yet ended it with her son being granted the beautiful Bestwood Lodge estate and land. Nell Gwynn really did go from rags to riches thanks to King Charles II. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

Ghosts Of War... Being a large estate, Bestwood Lodge was taken over by the military at the start of the war in 1939. It became Army Headquarters of the Northern Command. Considerable areas of parkland were turned into a training base and campsite. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

National Service... During WWII, badly injured soldiers arrived at the local Daybrook Station before making their way to Bestwood Lodge. The ground floor was used mainly as a military hospital. You can only imagine the horrors that played out here. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

A King's Mistress... Eleanor 'Nell' Gwynn was a 17th century actress who'd caught the eye of King Charles II. After they embarked on their affair, the King moved Nell into Bestwood Lodge. It's said that she still resides there to this very day. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

Royal Ties... Although owned by the Crown throughout much of its history, Bestwood Lodge was routinely granted to various Noblemen. One such was the 10th Duke of St Albans. He's reportedly been seen wandering the grounds up until this very day. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire

Bestwood Lodge... This former hunting lodge had belonged to the Crown since medieval times, but today it serves as a hotel and events venue. I'll be diving into its past whilst exploring some of the more notable and permanent residents. 📸👻 #HauntedNottinghamshire
