The Houston Toad is very important. As an amphibian, it will go from living in puddles and small ponds to living on land. During this transition, nutrients is passed from one habitat to another.

By attending Bastrop State Park, the fees you pay go towards restoration and captive breeding programs to help save this species
One way people can help is to donate to the Houston Zoo and other organizations that support conservation
The toads are carefully monitored and meticulous records are kept to ensure the program’s success
the program includes 600 adult toads, 185 total breedings per year, resulting in roughly 1 million eggs
Under careful supervision, Houston Toads are bred, and there egg strands are released into the wild to hatch and grow
The Houston zoo is conducting a long-term species restoration project at their facility
Here is an area that has been cleared of yaupon. notice how much room there is now, especially towards the forest floor
Planting saplings also helps to promote natural healthy growth within the area #reforestation
The goal of the project is to cut down yaupon, an invasive plant species, which will leave room for native pines, oaks, and junipers to grow #environmentalrestoration
I have designed and organized a project aimed at restoring the habitat of the houston toad so that their young have a greater chance of survival #conservation
Another reason for the decline of this species is deaths due to fire ants, an invasive species that has laid claim to the piney forests where the toad lives #InvasiveSpecies
The primary reason these toads are critically endangered is because of habitat destruction #deforestation #urbanization
The Houston Toad can be identified and distinguished from the similar-looking Gulf Coast Toad by the blue throat of the male #gulfcoasttoad
