Great tip for long-term purchases: "We're going on an Alaskan cruise next year and I need a lot of stuff. I created an Amazon list and every paycheck, I will buy one thing that is on sale that week. By the time we cruise, I will have everything I need and no debt!"

Growing up, we always told kids "let's go potty." Today, I learned from my grandma that potty training kids, they had literal pots with handles on it for the kids to use who couldn't reach the toilet. Potty is because it was a literal POT. Never even thought about it.

So many young adults are uncomfortable or unsure how to handle simple phone calls. To help my kids get comfortable dealing professional offices, I have my kids, 8+ call to pay their own bills when they come. I'm there to help and the pediatrician is always patient and reassuring.

Personally, I like to get a 401k match then max out my IRA before putting more in my 401k. But that is too much work for most people and they just won't make the effort to do it. Just add more to your 401k. Every raise, add a little more. Done is better than perfect.
