New PhD position in ecological genomics of seagrass restoration in the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea is now available! In collaboration between Università della Tuscia and #gpgroup 🌿
Possibly the biggest issue facing @IUCNssc seagrass specialist group is a lack of funding or a stable position with a University or organization to coordinate this effort such that we can retain and reward our experts.
One thing that came out of this #isbw14 meeting is a need to check in more regularly with @kewgardens @ChiefBotanist and other global experts with differing resolutions on seagrass species.

But no matter how low life gets, no matter how many setbacks occur, you can endure. The connections and support systems we cultivate around are what allow us to keep moving forward and this thesis is testament to that. 7/7
So to me, this printed book symbolises so much more than a thesis. It’s a work of resilience and perseverance but the hardest part is knowing that my mother isn’t around to celebrate this endeavour. 6/7
There have been times this year when a finished thesis felt so far out of reach that I felt that I could not continue. There were times when I wanted to throw in the towel. 5/7
Just when I felt things were moving forward and progressing well, crisis struck within my family. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. My whole world crumbled. Her passing early this year has left me and my family in pieces. 4/7
The last few years have been challenging for numerous reasons. Firstly, the #COVID19 pandemic started just as I was planning a second batch of fieldwork. This ultimately prevented me from conducting some of the studies I had envisioned for this thesis. 2/7
Unbelievably happy and proud to have my PhD printed and submitted for examination. Of seagrass and society explores seagrass social-ecological systems in the context of #BlueFood and will be defended on 2nd of December. This book symbolises so much more than a thesis. 1/7
@komonews What is worse the wolves eating cattle or the humans that will. It is all about tax dollars lost from the sale of the beef. I pray that the hunters have the same fate.

At the UN Oceans Conference we are talking about "blue carbon". Can we create "blue REDD+" for sea grass and kelp "forests" in the territorial waters on coastal and island nations? When we bottom trawl these fragile ecosystems it is like clear felling and ploughing a rain forest!
