You mock ‘country’s,’ yet your own sentence — ‘Don’t ever let them tell you that it’s not…’ — would be ungrammatical in Early Modern English. They’d have written ‘Let not them ever tell thee it is not…’ So by the same measure, you too are ‘wrong.’

In Early Modern English, ’s served as a plural — archaic now, but legitimate then. The meaning is transparent. History, though, is a discipline demanding literacy, which is why a subsaharan should not be blamed for failing to recognize it.
