When Robin Williams managed to make Koko the gorilla smile again after six months of mourning
Compassion story: This is KOKO the Gorilla, which most people have heard of, the gorilla who can speak about 1000 words in sign language, and understand about 2000 in English. What most people don't know, however is that Koko was an avid Mister Roger's Neighborhood fan. When Fred Rogers took a trip out to meet Koko for his show, not only did she immediately wrap her arms around him and embrace him, she did what she'd always seen him do onscreen, she proceeded to take his shoes off. Such a moment not to be missed.

Robin Williams had a special connection with Koko, the sign-language-using gorilla. In 2001, he visited The Gorilla Foundation, where he met Koko and spent a day communicating and playing with her. The two formed a genuine connection, and when Koko was later informed of Williams’ death in 2014, she displayed clear signs of sadness, showcasing Williams’ remarkable ability to connect not just with humans but also with animals.
