Should Tesla have Family Sharing accounts like Apple does? We’ve owned 5 Teslas in 9 years and they’ve all been tied to my husband’s account because that’s where our referral credits live. Even with seat profiles, the car still thinks I’m him half the time and at the Robotaxi ride in Austin, I couldn’t even download the app without his 2FA codes. With Tesla’s Robotaxi future, it seems like a family sharing account would be useful. Thoughts? @Tesla @elonmusk
@ItsKimJava Everyone in the family can have their own account & Tesla Profile Invite others from the mobile app via Security & Drivers > Add Driver Tesla Profile saves your settings – best for @robotaxi too

Have you tried tying your profile to your “keys” to address the seat profiles? Or did you not create your own Tesla account? You can do that, and he can add you as a driver so it splits everything up. Maybe you know that, but I thought I would mention. We have three Teslas and three Tesla accounts and no issues whatsoever with profile selection or 2FA. Let me know if you have questions!
@ItsKimJava Yes! This is needed. The instructions Tesla posted cannot be followed by a co-owner that is on the Tesla’s title but was not the Tesla account that purchased the car. Tesla inadvertently demonstrated the issue with their response.
@ItsKimJava I just shared access to my wife on a separate account
@ItsKimJava I’m pretty sure you can designate a car to a family member. I’m the main account for mine and hubby is designated his car. I’m actually impressed by the accuracy in which Tesla knows who gets into the car. It’s not perfect but pretty close!
“Attempts to suppress and stigmatize false claims as ‘disinformation’ or ‘hate speech’ can have the perverse effect of increasing their appeal.”
@ItsKimJava I have the same issues as you. It is “my car” but his name was first and so he has full app access and I can’t see some features unless I log in as him. Would love a Family Sharing Account.
@ItsKimJava Interior cam should be used to recognize who's in which seat IMHO @Tesla_AI @aelluswamy @elonmusk
@ItsKimJava Every driver should have their own Tesla account. The main owner needs to simply add the rest of the family as additional drivers. Problem solved ✅
@ItsKimJava It's actually mind boggling you don't know how to set up an additional Tesla account for you and other people who want to use your vehicle. Everyone uses their own profile and it sync between vehicles and that's all you need
@ItsKimJava Yes! Same situation here since 2016. We tried sharing the car from my husband account to my account, but then I don’t have the same access to car as my husband does.
@ItsKimJava Main account owns the car, anyone else added is a driver. Same experience but it’s enhanced with cloud profiles. I get out of my car, and into my sisters… my seat, music, etc are already linked.
@ItsKimJava I have the same issue since 2015, I have been the main account holder for our 6 Teslas over the years. What would come really close to the solution you are looking for is for everybody to create their own account and for PJ to just share access to the car.
@ItsKimJava How do you not know this Kim?? WTH you can share cars to their own accounts.
@ItsKimJava We’ve never had this issue with phone key or anything like that. Make sure you are logged into your own Tesla account on your device - and then, added as a driver to the car(s). It’s so far batting 1000 for us. Our X is on her account and the S is on mine. Zero issues with it
@ItsKimJava Hell yeah. They need family account features AND bundle subscription for services like Apple One. Make it happen @elonmusk and I will be one of the first adopters of these packages.
@ItsKimJava Yes!!! The Tesla I drive is on my husband’s account and the Tesla he drives is on mine. It wasn’t too much of an issue until they added authentication, so now we have to call each other to view the account info/safety score for the car we drive. It’s annoying!
@ItsKimJava And insurance only shows on main account!
@ItsKimJava I also think that if you own fsd and rent a Tesla out of town, fsd should be activated on the rental vehicle. Of course, they could temporarily deactivate on the vehicle you left at home.
We bought a new model Y and since my wife was driving at the time we made the decision, I bought it through my app, but set us both as owners. That didn't really work as planned, because Tesla still kept me as the "primary owner" of the car, meaning she didn't have certain features in her app related to that car. We later bought a 2nd one which is my car, and she really felt slighted that both cars showed me as primary owner. We spoke with Tesla about it and they had us transfer "ownership" to her in the app. It's really not a good solution (extras like premium connectivity subscriptions get wiped out) and they should create a family account as you're suggesting to remedy this kind of thing.
@ItsKimJava This is a good suggestion. I agree.
@ItsKimJava Possibly. Family sharing has its own glitches. In hindsight I probably should have just put everyone on my account. For example some apps only work on the purchaser’s account.
@ItsKimJava Tesla needs to focus on releasing unsupervised FSD than getting side tracked on minor stuff like Family Sharing. Let's let Tesla focus on the important stuff first. If you want your separate account, then buy a Tesla under your name only and have a separate account. Problem fixed
@ItsKimJava Can’t you create your own account and he can share the car access with you? It is essentially a “family accout”.
@ItsKimJava Tesla needs to save ALL attributes of the person driving or riding a Robotaxi in the profile, only some attributes currently are saved not ALL of them. I think if they did that it would mostly solve the issues.
@ItsKimJava That's because you are not doing it right
@ItsKimJava Makes sense, we are a recent 3 Tesla family and it’s a disconnected experience. Needs to be more seamless, especially with robotaxi around the corner
@ItsKimJava That’s a great idea. We own two Teslas right now, and it’s always fun when we get in our cars in the morning to see which one of us thinks we are. 😂
@ItsKimJava My wife and I both have separate accounts with different profiles.
