One of the hardest bits of managing a TTRPG project w/ multiple writers is wearing the mean hat. Writers by their nature are creative and I often need to stomp down and ask them to reign in their really outside the box idea to fit with in the context of the project. Makes me sad.

Some new age philosophers in the Cyberpunk world wonder if the 4th Corporate War was caused not by Militech/Arasaka but by the planetary consciousness as part of an effort to slow down humanity’s devastating industrial output long enough for the Earth to heal. At least a little.

The other day in the mall I saw a young woman who had padded her backside, either with surgery or actual padding. I thought it was interesting we seem to be returning to the days of 1700s rump extensions.

Tales of the RED: Hope Reborn releases next week. I’m confident in the work our team did. Yet, I still worry about how it will be received. What fans will think. How much fun they’ll have playing it. I am arguably a success in my field but anxiety doesn’t go away with success.

At a time when other games wouldn’t touch the subject or listed being gay as a mental illness, Cyberpunk took a firm stand and said “yep, queer people are here and doing shit, just like the straights.” And it continues to do so today.

My point tonight is that anyone who thinks LBGTQ+ characters are somehow new to Cyberpunk and injected there as part of some “woke agenda” or “quota system” doesn’t really know the history of the world or the game. They’ve been there from close to the damn beginning.

The first major trans character in Cyberpunk wasn’t a stereotype or a joke. She was a wife. Cyberpunk went out of its way to say “yes, this person is a woman and yes, as a woman she can marry a man who desperately loves her and that’s wonderful.” Published in 1992.

The first openly queer character in Cyberpunk, wasn’t a case of “oh, btw, lesbian.” No, the character talks at length about how she witnessed a political assassination at a Pride parade and, as a result, she’s made protest and activism her life’s mission. Published in 1989.
