The problem with the penalty for Rankine is not the penalty itself but the lack of consistency from the AFL. Football acts are being penalised, deliberate knees to the back are being ignored, death threats are glossed over... the AFL have completely lost the plot.
Would set a deeply problematic precedent if finals games were to be weighted differently to H&A games. In any case if finals are so important - the player should know better than to make the alleged remarks so close to finals.

If not using slurs ruins the game for you. Then you don’t like footy, you just like an excuse to be dickhead.
Presenting reasons to justify why THAT word was used just makes this whole thing even worse. There is absolutely no scenario where using homophobic language is acceptable.
And you have no right to weigh into whether the word is offensive or upsetting or whatever else unless you are from the minority. If you think the games “gone soft” go find another game, everyone has the right to feel welcome, safe & respected.
