This sequence should be part of your block retrieve & throw prep. Having to redirect your throw on balls in the dirt is not uncommon. Base runners often get caught in “no man’s land” on balls in the dirt because they are indecisive.

Bases loaded throw to HP & no chance for DP at 1B, arm fake & look for the runner rounding 3B. On this play I would prefer the catcher starting with his foot on the center (vs. front edge) of HP so there is NO chance of him coming off the plate when he extends to catch the ball.

The roll after the dive & catch is an essential piece of the process. Easier to secure the catch & less chance for the ball to be jarred loose from your glove after making contact with the ground.

The value of peaking on a stolen base. 1) You will not be deked into sliding at 2B when the ball is hit if you do not need to slide. 2) You will be in a position to react to contact & react better to batted balls. The question always is how much peaking slows you down?

Athletic play by Rockies Jordan Beck.Arcia set up to receive the throw with his glove close to the tag zone. In the end the runner was out,but Arcia could probably let the ball travel a little deeper in order to be closer to the tag zone when he caught the ball.
