Update: The daily news update feature is working! See today's fresh headlines here: wondrous-faun-ddaabe.netlify.app After 24 hours I was able to hit "generate today's headlines" and get an entirely fresh news page. Yesterday's news cached correctly and can be accessed via "Previous Day" on the main page. I will have to figure out how to make this an automatic daily chron job next so I don't have to log in and run the feature manually each day. That will make this a fully automated daily news BBS.
