..Rwampara, Sheema and Rubirizi depend on Rwizi’s water for both domestic and commercial use. The Rwizi river system that covers approximately 8,200 km is under serious threat and is on the verge of drying up due to degradation. #SaveRiverRwiziMarathon22

IN 1950s, Mbarara was like Europe. It was very cold with plenty of fog in the morning. You could barely see anything a metre away because of the fog in the morning. I wish we could restore this river (Rwizi) and go back to those days. #SaveRiverRwiziMarathon22

THERE is a lot of sand mining on the riverbanks of river Rwizi & as the river recedes, they excavate inside the riverbed. There is also brick making and waste water from factories. I don’t see such factories surviving if the river dries up. #SaveRiverRwiziMarathon22

THIS will be done thru visits to various sections of the river in an attempt to get broader sense of human activities that are pausing threat to the river catchment, interviewing locals in such communities & more that's going to help us appreciate the need to urgently conserve.

#SaveRiverRwizi Marathon 2022 is here. Sat July 30, 2022 is the event date. An initiative that will see individuals, businesses, civil society organizations, gov't entities, media & other stakeholders come together towards a long-term sustainability agenda for the river.
