Background: an early understanding of public perception is key for emerging technologies. Here, we focus on occupations and usage because "job displacement" is a critical theme around AI, and the "firsthand experiences of AI" is also a big change provided by generative AI. 3/
We first examine which occupation is interested in generative AI, by making a score where >1 signals "more interest than usual" (green line in Figure). Here, not just IT pros, but also non-IT ones like lawyers and teachers show above-average interest in genAI. 4/
