Globular clusters is blue-ish, dwarf galaxies in reddish. In the second animation you can see that two dwarf galaxies form a pair, and many orbit in somewhat the same plane, but not all!
Get some of the first #GaiaDR2 results from astro.rug.nl/~ahelmi/resear… 'The kinematics of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies around the Milky Way.' With the now known orbits of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies, we could make this animation (made with ipyvolume)
5) Has a #pandas like API, so not much to learn, and what your learn transfers to Pandas. The tutorial leans you 90% docs.vaex.io/en/latest/tuto….
4) Propagate the full covariance matrix with any transformation (vaex does this analytically and automatically). For instance ra,dec,parallax -> galactic x,y,z with full covariance matrix. Check the tutorial for details: docs.vaex.io/en/latest/tuto…
3) Common transformation built in: equatorial to galactic sky coordinates, sky coordinate + distance to cartesian, radial velocity and proper motions to cartesian or polar velocities and more. All transformations are using 'virtual columns', meaning they take ~0 memory.
2) Blazing fast & interactive plots: histograms, density maps, 3d volume rendering. In and outside the #Jupyter notebook.
1) Out of core dataframes means no memory issues working with over a billion rows, even on your laptop. Filtering (data cleansing) all done efficiently without memory copies. Data transformation done on the fly, using regular #numpy code (lazy magic!)
