This is promising: LEI refers to A3 as a "Kata" (practice routine), which is a way of developing skill/mindset. It's not "A3 problem solving," but rather "practicing problem solving with the A3." Good! A better view of what A3 is for at Toyota .. to help grow scientific thinkers!

Why do we do 5S? It leads to improvements, promotes safety, and it saves money. I am doing 5S in my woodworking shop and I discovered I have 4 identical saws. Obviously I didn't need to buy multiples.

Why practice scientific thinking? Because we have lots of adapting to do. Example .. we can benefit from the carbon-absorbing power of nature, if we adapt and stop claiming land to use as we wish. E. O. Wilson suggests we leave 1/2 the planet for nature. phys.org/news/2021-10-c…

The topic of "Lean" has progressed over the last 25 years. It's no longer mostly about methods. Today it is also very much about organizational culture - i.e., team members' attitudes; how they think, act and feel.

One thing I've learned in these later years of my career is that building a business is much more about the people you meet, the lasting friendships you make. That revenues and profits follow is a pleasant byproduct but it's not the reason to work as hard as we do.
