The way it makes so many people anxious, scared and bored of math, while rarely showing them how fun, creative and awesome math can be.

@LongFormMath @taz_chu Math was always boring, and I didn’t care about any of it. Later on, I went to college in my 20’s, and I had two good professors for linear algebra and discrete math. They showed me a whole other world of math, and I’ve loved it ever since.
@LongFormMath The combinatorics book I started reading in tenth grade (for informatics olympiad) is genuinely the most impactful thing I've ever read It's a shame how there is so little combinatorics and discrete math in general in high school
@LongFormMath Indeed. When I was a kid math was boring, in highschool was scary and also uninteresting... Too much abstraction. Now, because of what we can do with math (quantum physics, machine learning, analytics, AI, and much more), I love math.
@LongFormMath Because we are still teaching using an "algorithmic" approach (in order to create an effdctive workforce for the Industrial Age); but we need a workforce that has imagination in order to produce innovations. Creating more innovators is what will make the US #1 again.
@LongFormMath I think the first time I properly fell in love with math was when I proved Eulers identity on a bonus question in my calc 2 class. Made me feel so smart.
@LongFormMath I'd just add the fact that most people don't perceive maths as something subjected to creativity, but rather a set of stale rules
@LongFormMath That it caters to the dumber half of the class 🤷♂️
