Literally one of the first things I was taught in my College of Ed. on my way to becoming a teacher is that students can’t learn if they aren’t safe in school The proposed agreement is fake, just like our Mayor, and does nothing to keep our students safe I will be voting no.

Just got an email from our daughters teacher in NYC that she’s home tested positive but - because no symptoms since Thurs - she’s mandated to teach tomorrow. Yes, we’re literally forcing Covid positive teachers into class (our kiddo staying home obvs). This is nuts.

The state’s and school district’s new policy is if a teacher is exposed to covid at work, they will no longer even notify us. And somehow folks are mad at teachers for wanting schools to be temporarily remote?

I'm sad there's a decent chance we'll save thousands of lives and protect students from trauma with this work action, they'll keep us out until wave subsides and then our reward for heroics will be no pay while the folks killing people and scabs get paid. But it's still worth it.

I’m a Chicago Public Schools parent. I haven’t been here long enough to know all of the politics and ins and outs. But I am incredibly frustrated with leadership who says that the schools are safer bc of vaccines, yet I’ve seen zero effort to get kids vaccinated.

One reason school closures and absences are so concerning is the fact that we’ve been conditioned to believe that learning requires a synchronous experience. So when synchronous instruction is disrupted, it feels like learning has to stop. It doesn’t need to be that way.

Glenbrook North and South go to remote learning. Lincoln-Way and others have already. Chicago twitter is busy yelling at itself about CPS vs. CTU and doesn’t seem to realize how many suburbs are sliding to remote.

We can’t let COVID close schools because kids can’t learn at home unless it’s something about Black history, which should be taught in the home by parents who aren’t home because they have to work to pay for healthcare in case their kid gets COVID because we didn’t close schools.

CPS reported a record number of COVID cases earlier this week. As of last night, about 9,000 students and a record 2,300 staffers were isolated after testing positive for COVID, or in quarantine due to close contact. Educators continue working remotely for safety. #LoriLockout
