With the collaboration of @IGADsecretariat we opened a 2 days’ workshop in Mogadishu today to strengthen National BE platforms among IGAD Member States. The Gov't of Somalia strongly focuses on harnessing the potential of the Blue Economy sector for sustainable development. #Blue

The DG of the @MFBESomalia Mr. @ADirshe met with some of the IDPs in Mogadishu. Said some of them being highly skilled with advanced level fishery knowledge & skills. The Government is encouraging IDP community to take active role in the fishery sector development.
The National Fisheries Management & Development Council (FMDC) agreed in their communique on issues over the implementation of fisheries master plan, combating IUU fishing, fisheries week, completing #FMDC procedures, prioritizing marine security & Development of Fishery sector.
This 2nd FMDC meeting focused on strengthening the cooperation b/w the Fisheries Ministries at both levels of FGS / FMS, Fisheries master plan, objective of the dev of fisheries, implementation of procedures of the FMDC & prioritizing maritime security & combating IUU fishing.
A delegation led by The Minister of @MFBESomalia @Mr_ahmedaden arrived in Kismayo Jubaland State and the purpose of the trip is the 2nd meeting of the Fisheries Management & Development Council which will be held in Kismayo by tomorrow. #BadmaalProject #FMDC
In concluding of the meeting DG @ADirshe said "in order to achieve the desired economic Dev., it is necessary 2 focus on strengthening Maritime Security, combating IUU fishing & Implementing of Fisheries Infrastructure which will lead to the efficient use of the marine resources"

Today, we opened in Mogadishu a consultation meeting b/w the @MFMRSomaliya & our counterpart of the FMS which focused on strengthening the cooperation b/w us, development of the local fishing & to speed up the priority plans for the development of the fishery sector.
20 women fisher-folks from Marka & Jazeera, Southwest state, received skills to safely process, handle, preserve, dry & prepare fish at City University Mogadishu under the Productive Sector Development Programme. The trainees also received basic fish processing equipment.
@MFMRSomaliya is drafting a Fisheries Master Plan to guide the fisheries sector's management and development in the next 10 yrs therefore, A high level delegation is visiting this week in Rome and other coastal areas in Italy 2 exchange knowledge and share information.
