Who is a character that someone hating is an instant red flag for you? For sure my sad third son. The first step in gaining D&D experience is hating tropes inherently. One of the final steps is understanding and appreciating why they exist, and what exists behind their surfaces.

I dunno who needs to hear this but alignment is not meant to reflect the spectrum of real-life ethics. Good and evil are not tangible, intelligent forces in the real world like they are in D&D and any argument against alignment that compares it to real world ethics is misinformed

I’ve certainly seen multiple actual-plays unwittingly impose audience bleed from a design standpoint, creating huge swathes of the community who think that D&D is primarily a game about being either a good actor or the funniest person in the room.

My favorite part of everyone immediately becoming hyper-critical of every step #OneDND takes is that these people finally have to face the fact that "good game design" is relative to what different people want out of D&D and that their opinions aren't monoliths.

The #onednd Druid changes are good and I’m not gonna pretend they didn’t need a heavy nerf. Players get so hostile as soon as a class gets a bit less potent, and that’s how we end up with power creep. Sorry you have more creative freedom but can’t out-tank the tank classes now.
