To keep property taxes stable, we need long-term predictable funding from the provincial and federal governments for things such as infrastructure, housing and health care. Our cities and taxpayers deserve a change in how tax dollars are allocated between governments to make things more efficient and fairer for everyone. The way the system works now is extremely antiquated and doesn’t allow municipalities to plan for our long-term needs. Currently, we have to go cap in hand to the federal and provincial government, hope a funding stream opens up and that we qualify. OBCM is asking for an urgent meeting with the provincial and federal governments where they will sit down with Ontario’s municipalities to talk about who pays for what without punishing the municipal taxpayer. @MariannMeedWard With both the federal and provincial governments running deficits where do you propose the money come from? What cuts will the higher-level governments have to make or where will taxes be increased?
@MariannMeedWard Research says it's actually best to increase property taxes (and/or introduce a land value tax) while lowering income tax (disencentivising ppl from earning money).
