Mario Party: The Top 100 contains the unexpectedly profound test message "It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything." This is actually a quote from the 1999 film Fight Club.
@MarioBrothBlog where in the game is this? is it an unused/debug string, or does it appear somewhere in the game?
@MarioBrothBlog I love getting my wisdom from Mario Party: The Top 100 test messages
@MarioBrothBlog If you don't mind me asking an unrelated question, what's your favorite Donkey Kong game?
@MarioBrothBlog Here's the scene from Fight Club where this quote originated
@MarioBrothBlog I have no idea why but The World Ends With You uses "Soylent green is PEOPLE" as a test message.
@MarioBrothBlog There is nothing in this game that would warrant that quote. Other Mario Parties, maybe.
@MarioBrothBlog Top 100 rules of Fight Club
@MarioBrothBlog id like to imagine this was a cry for help from the devs
@MarioBrothBlog This is a great metaphor for when you end up in last place in a Mario Party game, and just proceed to screw with everyone after you’ve accepted you’re not going to win.
@MarioBrothBlog It’s kinda interesting in the context of the time this game came out. Mario Party arguably was at it’s lowest point when it comes to the games and this game might’ve been the final straw that when the next game came put Super Mario Party it was a return to form.
@MarioBrothBlog I am Jack’s smirking revenge (I got to steal a star back).
@MarioBrothBlog MarioBroth, do you already know that Mario Party 9's pandemonium is unused in The Top 100?
@MarioBrothBlog This is a reference to the fact that Nintendo had to temporarily destroy the franchise with Top 100 so they can then more easily revive it with SMP a year later /j
@MarioBrothBlog Nintendo were going through some rough times weren't they? Next thing you know there'll be a quote from Nietzche in the files for Federation Force.
@MarioBrothBlog Whats the point of including something like this, is this accidental or do little text files like this actually serve some purpose.
@MarioBrothBlog Where’s the message in game?
@MarioBrothBlog Rule Number 1 about the Nintendo Fight Club: Nobody speaks about the Nintendo Fight Club
@MarioBrothBlog Is this why I don’t hear anyone talking about this game?
@MarioBrothBlog "Rule 1 of Top 100, you don't talk about Top 100" I barely hear anything about Top 100 online
@MarioBrothBlog Insane if you actually read the book lol
@MarioBrothBlog Is this worth picking up? There's only one board right?
@MarioBrothBlog Where can the quote be found in the game?
