As a part of our commitment to Vision Zero, today I joined Mayor @JohnTory and Councillor @MikeColleTo to announce the installation of 25 new Automated Speed Enforcement Camera’s throughout the city.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo In the public sector what matters is what is funded, not what elected people say. "Throughout the city" is no indicator. The 25 will complete 75 (NYC has 2,000+; equiv. 800 in TO) for city of 3m. pop., 5,600 km streets, 2,400 traffic lights. It's talk, no action = #ZeroVision.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo Launched in July 2016, “the Plan prioritizes the safety of our most vulnerable road users through a range of initiatives.” What are the statistics since 2016 - @cityoftoronto is not where near zero deaths on our streets! cc @FFSafeStreets toronto.ca/services-payme…
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo Sorry but this announcement is hardly a “commitment to Vision Zero”. The Mayor and City Council needs to try much harder.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo Another money grab....They should not activate until 20 MPH over the posted limit.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo There are more people living in poverty in #TO than ever before and you spend money on speed cameras to slow down traffic even more. Please get out of office.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo Let's use them to stop cyclists who run all lights and stop signs.
@McKelvieTO @JohnTory @MikeColleTo How about also addressing the pedestrians who just slap the light at crosswalks while staring at their phones and DON'T POINT for drivers. Cyclists who fly down sidewaks and run stop signs??? Drivers, Pedestrians and Cyclists ALL need to pay attention in today's distracted world
