Introducing charter schools in Ontario would likely contribute to segregating students by race and socioeconomic status, and to the creation to of elite schools that cherrypick students, write Karen Robson and Rochelle Wijesingha from @McMasterSocSci. ow.ly/VoCg50NHgJg
if people want to pay for their kids to go to a privately funded school, that frees up over crowding in public schools. That means better teacher student ratios, more money per student. Instead of letting jealously rule your mind, look at how it can be beneficial. People want “rich” people to have to pay more so paying for their own schooling instead of getting it from the government is just that.
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci It was inevitable as part of the covert neoliberalism policy implemented by @OntarioPCCaucus
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci You think schools are not highly segregated by race & socioeconomic status based on where they live? This argument has been made in America and even accounting for cherry picking and other variables they've consistently outperformed public schools
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci So what if a school system ignores Marxist ideals? As long as students get a good education, what is wrong with a charter school? Are you implying that government-run public schools put students at a disadvantage?
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci Baloney. It would be a great equalizer.
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci Public schools are already segregating by race.
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci Make educating kids a priority in public schools again instead of indoctrination and maybe people will find value to keep their kids there.
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci And you can't have it both ways where segregation is celebrated ie black only camps but the cry foul when charter schools offer something market needs.
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci So the umm POC safe spaces and other race-catering things happening in schools now are wrong too?
@McMasterU @McMasterSocSci The best and brightest should continue to be the best and brightest. We need more great thinkers, not less. Society needs smart people, not everyone needs to be average just to make people feel good.
