Enroute to Memory Lane Campground, the canola fields which were bright yellow just a few days ago are now in the swath. Even if you did not know what crop had been growing, the fluffy appearance of the swathes tells the story. #GardenGrewPeas

Mount Royal plum growing and fruiting at 53.5°N. This blue plum is self-fertile, needing no pollinator. The original tree died back one wicked winter, but came again from the root. The fruit is perhaps a little smaller but just as tasty as the first ones. #GardenGrewPeas

Bluejays have been busy picking off every acorn on the bur oaks ({Quercus macrocarpa). These hardy trees are frequently used in landscaping, although they did not survive the "moose-pruning" at Memory Lane Campground. #GardenGrewPeas

Relatively few trees flower later in the season in our area. This is Amur Maackia (Maackia amurensis), a member of the legume family, growing happily at 53.5°N. #GardenGrewPeas

Golden Glow (Rudbeckia laciniata) is one of the tough plants likely to be found in old cottage gardens. It lights the dark corners and lasts well in a cut arrangement. #GardenGrewPeas

"Pandora's Box" daylily provides a touch of ephemeral beauty as it catches some afternoon sun. Apparently, the name was inspired by the contrasting colours in the bloom. It has offered no problems of the sort implied by opening the "box". #GardenGrewPeas

Marshmallow farms are starting to harvest. These will be loaded and shipped off-farm for further processing. Some guests fishing at the Memory Lane trout pond prefer marshmallows for bait. Retails packs, with marshmallows cut to smaller sizes, are recommended. #GardenGrewPeas

Morden Blush rose. This is one of the hardy Parkland series of roses, bred at and introduced by the Morden (Manitoba) Research Station in 1988. This range of roses was developed to include hardiness as a key feature. #GardenGrewPeas
