I hope @QueensUHealth is creating financial supports as well. As someone not attending grad, waiting for payday for my @CPSA_CA licensing for residency and not going to accept my @CdnMedHallFame award because of financial reasons. Getting in the door doesn't mean access.

This is excellent.
Congratulations Minister @lisabeare, we look forward to working with you in ensuring that post-secondary is accessible and affordable for all students in BC. #bcpoli
“According to the BC SPCA, for the eight years between 2014 and 2022, people surrendered more than 11,000 animals, and lack of affordable housing was the primary reason.” #bcpoli
NEW - BC says its int'l student cap for this year (set by Ottawa) will be around 50,000 study permits. The province had 175,000 int'l study permits last year. However, that included masters and grad students. This new figure does not. So they aren't directly comparable. So yeah.
Housing Minister Sean Fraser announces that post-secondary institutions and other builders will be able to access low cost loans from the feds to build student housing. This is a similar plan to what the feds announced last year for purpose built rental projects #cdnpoli
International students made 🇨🇦's housing unaffordable. The data is clear. ... or a predatory government used international students as an excuse for poor financial regulation that resulted in a credit bubble. It's one of those.
Canada is one of only eight advanced countries where average real incomes are lower than before the pandemic, as inflation outpaces growth in nominal incomes. per the Business Council of British Columbia.

Here's my video on the Vancouver apartment for $2000/month that everyone's talking about. The whole story is almost as much of a mystery as how anyone making under six figures affords this city.
RIP Robbie
you ever think about the fact that as a kid you thought cheers was a tv show for old people but when it began the main characters were the following ages 35 35 34 34 33 and now you are 36 or is that just me
does any other millennial vaguely remember listening to tons of warnings in the late 90s/early 2000s about aging baby boomers and the risks to our health care system when they all became seniors unless we made massive reforms? anyway i'm glad we figured it all out
This is all totally fine - no issues of note. I'm sure massive amounts of wealth aren't being transferred from the middle class to private corps/REITS/and barons creating a permanent tenant class. The market is doing what it's set up to do. #bcpoli rentals.ca/national-rent-…

The rise and fall of the Sid Meier's Civilization franchise from 1991 to 2018 is both one of the great tragedies of the computer gaming industry, and a window into the massive change in psychology of the US ruling class. This thread will explore both.
This is a solid plan. When I sat on NCC, PMO never wanted to touch renos, fearful of voters. This depoliticized approach is great! “Opinion: Trudeau shouldn’t reject Chrétien and Harper’s offer on 24 Sussex - The Globe and Mail” #cdnpoli theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…
Christine Boyle is the BC NDP’s candidate in Vancouver-Little Mountain. A strong advocate for rental, co-op and non-market housing, she was elected to Vancouver City Council in 2018 and 2022. She has worked in environmental and climate advocacy. Welcome!
More to come in the morning but for now: congrats to @christineeboyle, Cailey Lynch and the rest of her endorsers and supporters. To my team, I am so sorry we couldn’t pull this out. We started behind but made up a lot of ground with a fantastic campaign. /1

Charlie Angus not running for re-election is a loss for us all. I admire how he so forcefully stands up for the underdog-from blue-collar Northern resource workers, to his advocacy with Indigenous peoples, from Shannen Koostachin to Attawapiskat's housing. Solidarity brother.
The #bcpoli pre-election season truly kicks off today with the first two BC NDP nominations: ➡️ Surrey - Panorama: Jinny Sims ➡️➡️ Vancouver - Little Mountain where the tradition of exciting nominations in that constituency continues Strong women being elected!
