Account for the Manuscripts of the Muslim World project. A @CLIRnews grant-funded project digitizing manuscripts from @FreeLibrary , @upennlib, & @columbialibopenn.library.upenn.edu/html/muslimwor…Joined December 2018
Rounding out this week, and also rounding out my tweets from this project account, from Indonesia, a copy of the Qur'an. This is from @upennlib Ms. Codex 2047.

Thanks everyone for having followed us and participated in this project!
Continuing with our tour of the edges, this copy of 40 hadith was probably produced in China. There is an occasional gloss in Chinese in the margins. Also glosses in Persian. From @upennlib, this is Ms. Codex 28. Disbound.

For the rest of this week, we'll look at items produced on the edges of the main Islamicate manuscript production area. From @librarycompany, a charm possibly produced in the Caribbean, likely by an enslaved person. Arabic w/one line in Soninke.

Wrapping up our short week of star charts with some constellation pictures. These are from @columbialib, MS Or 442. A few examples are below, but there are many more in the ms and well worth a look.

Something pretty for today, this is an incomplete work of rising/setting charts, horoscopes for deciding good times to do stuff, etc. From @upennlib and @sims_mss, this is LJS 434.

Next Wednesday! Penn is hosting a CELEBRATION of all the digitization done for the @CLIRHC
"Manuscripts of the Muslim World" and we will obviously take the opportunity to plug our *continuing* community project (tinyurl.com/mmwjoin) here @FreeLibrarylibwww.freelibrary.org/calendar/event…
This week is star charts and calendars. Most of this will be from @columbialib, since their collections have many math and science mss. This is MS Or 19, a copy of a work on astrolabes for calendar making, ends abruptly.

Moving into the slightly larger formats today, this is a copy of Gulistan, 11 x 6.5 cm, definitely small enough for a pocket (or a sleeve). Embroidered cover and lines not always running straight across. This is from @GripTheRaven, Lewis O 72.
Here: archive.org/details/lewis_…
Today, two miniature copies of the Qur'an, each approx. 5 cm. A square one from @GripTheRaven, Lewis O 181, w/a carrying case, unfortunately not digitized. The other, octagonal, from @upennlib, Ms. Codex 1909. That one is digitized, you can see it here:
openn.library.upenn.edu/Data/0002/html…
This week, we'll look at small size manuscripts, not all miniatures, technically, but they are all easy to carry around! We'll start with an amulet copy of the Qur'an. A 4.5 cm across copy with a carrying case from @GripTheRaven, this is Lewis O 6.
here: archive.org/details/lewis_…
And here's a copy of the Qur'an made on Malta. From @upennlib, this is Ms. Codex 1904. It is missing the first leaf, but contains the colophon which gives the date of copy as well the copyist's name, that he is a prisoner and some curses for Malta.

For today, here's a copy of a volume of Sahih al-Bukhari. Also from North Africa. The red and blue are used throughout and gold is added for surah headings and to highlight specific words. This is @columbialib MS Or 254.
Whole item here:

This week we'll have a look at items written in the Maghribi script family, mostly from North Africa in this particular collection, but a few from West Africa and southern Spain.
This from a popular prayer book in @columbialib's collection, MS Or 261.
