@Sebasti66855537 @SebAaltonen Eventually NVIDIA realized they could pull way ahead by doing new stuff that wasn't DX compatible, and just force MS to incorporate carbon copies of the APIs into DX [like RT], and AMD instead of fighting, took the 'follow the train' approach which continues today

@Sebasti66855537 @SebAaltonen NVIDIA could ship slower HW with better top title benchmarks. When AMD had some HW features ahead of NVIDIA, they never enabled it in software. For example async compute [AC], AMD wouldn't bypass WDDM, so the sync primitives to use [AC] had all been useless [CPU side]

@Sebasti66855537 @SebAaltonen Back when NVIDIA and AMD had been trading hits, long before AI, NVIDIA pulled ahead due to (1.) having a team of shader replacement people fixing all top games in game ready drivers, (2.) AMD's GCN having an absolutely horrible compiler. --- nothing to do with open/closed source

@TsutsuYumeGunnm fwiw, I strongly suspect that the overuse of TAA/framegen etc is in part consequence of DF's OG "technical analysis" crap, where they focused EXCLUSIVELY on pixel counting and frame counting as measures of quality.
