@Ed_Realist @dperkinsed @dylanwiliam That's like saying healing crystals do no harm as a treatment for cancer. If teachers waste time/energy teaching based on the learning styles of students at the expense of a far more effective lesson then it's definitely harmful.

If we teach using explicit instruction, calling upon ANY child with a straightforward question should be a normal part of accountability because the expectation ought to be 100% attention. Pupils then feel really successful & this boosts their self-esteem (& eliminates anxiety).

@tombennett71 @MrMac_Math I think the best use case is for pronunciation of new vocabulary. Everyone gets a chance to rehearse it and you, the teacher, can hear the quality and repeat it as needed to really nail it. CR also can keep things lively and pacy. Even if it’s not causing students to think hard,…
