We have been working nonstop ⏰on our narratives. From marking up mentor texts, planning out our stories from exposition➡️resolution to giving powerful “glow” and “grow” feedback rooted in rubrics, we have made great strides! @POBSchools @EAnninoPOBLit @HBMATTLIN1
We’ve banished boring words and are moving on to more sophisticated vocabulary. We are also paying close attention to the connotations words carry and are being intentional with our word choices @HBMATTLIN1 @EAnninoPOBLit
It’s just a matter of TIME ⏰before we master these timeline skills. We’ve been racing 🏃🏽SALT homeroom vs PEPPER homeroom to see which class is faster at organizing ourselves into chronological order from BC/ BCE dates to AD/ CE dates @HBMATTLIN1
Understanding key vocab terms like “fragment,” “subject”, and “predicate” help us appropriately discuss grade level grammar. We labeled parts of fragments and sentences and then expanded fragments to create sentences to make our writing clearer ✏️✅ @POBSchools @EAnninoPOBLit
We waved goodbye👋🏻 to surface level jots & have opened the door 🚪to higher level thinking jots. We’ve sorted jots of various levels & created our own. Not only do we know what a “powerful jot” is but now we can correctly label & identify the skill @HBMATTLIN1 @EAnninoPOBLit
In order to become better citizens of Mattlin and the world, we need a clear mission. I always love translating our District Mission Statement to 6th grade language to empower our 6th grade citizens to make great choices 🫶😊@POBSchools @HBMATTLIN1
Today we examined articles using a 🚗CARS🚗 checklist✔️🏁 We were on the lookout for sources that were Credible, Accurate, Reasonable and Supported. We learned to not believe everything we read on the internet, and instead to read with a critical lens🔬@POBSchools @HBMATTLIN1
We’ve been in nonfiction book clubs and focusing our attention🔬on mulling over fascinating details 😳🤔, using those to determine central ideas , revising those central ideas in light of new evidence💡,and connecting new reading to previous ideas 🔄@HBMATTLIN1 @POBSchools

We sorted pieces of text evidence into “strong” 💪🏽and “weak” 🚫based on how closely they supported our shared claim from “Thank You, Ma’am” before searching our own texts for strong evidence for our literary essays ✏️ @HBMATTLIN1 @EAnninoPOBLit
Who knew writing a literary essay required so much talking? We’ve been rehearsing for our essays by working in groups to discuss the complexities of our characters & writing “in the air” about what our characters truly want before putting ✏️to 📓This made writing long a breeze🌬️
We are immersing ourselves in the issues our characters are facing. We’re examining 🔬the relationships to find the positive ➕and the negative ➖aspects and looking for how all characters contribute to the problems in our stories 😡😤 @POBSchools @HBMATTLIN1 @EAnninoPOBLit
Two previous students became the teachers this AM! 👩🏫👩🏻🏫7th graders came in to read their narratives from last year & show how they slowed down time&stretched the story’s problem ⏰6th graders absorbed🧽these authentic mentor texts & applied similar techniques to their own writing
The best kind of feedback is peer feedback. We discussed what makes a constructive glow ☀️&grow 🌱in our narratives. We named specific areas for celebration & growth in a mentor text & then traded writing to draft feedback for our classmates @POBSchools @HBMATTLIN1 @EAnninoPOBLit
