Our surveyors use endoscopic cameras to examine the condition of the existing ties and identify the type of wall tie used in the construction.  If the ties have corroded affecting the stability of the walls, we will provide you with a replacement specification. #multiskill

The introduction of cavity walls in the early 20th century provided insulation and protection against water ingress.  The inner and outer leaves of the walls are ‘tied’ together by wall ties (iron straps) and over the years the ‘ties’ can corrode, causing horizontal cracking.

You may also be able to spot fine, powdery dust around the exit holes (know as frass). Even if you can’t see any holes, you may still be able to spot frass underneath or around furniture. If you can see beetles emerging from the holes that’s a pretty conclusive sign!

How do you know if you have woodworm? The first thing to look out for is small, round exit holes, similar in size to those made on a darts board. They holes really are small, so you will need a keen eye to identify all the areas affected!……
