A less talked about autistic skill is scripting. Every day, I socialise using various intricate scripts that I’ve created and memorised. They include vocal inflections, facial expressions, pauses and stumbles (so they appear spontaneous and I won’t be judged for script reading).

It’s so frustrating when NT’s interpret my attention to detail as being too knit-picky and thinking I’m better than them. I know it’s a miscommunication but I try so hard not to offend anyone😔

An autism diagnosis for some of us means realising we are not ‘broken neurotypicals’ but instead ‘perfect neurodivergents’, as @HolSmale said perfectly today. Diagnosis saved my life too.

Why is neurodiversity not taught or talked about in schools? If we started educating children from a young age to know & understand other neurotypes, we’d save a lot of ill health & improve quality of life overall.

Whenever I change the sheets on my bed, it takes me a while to get used the sensory aspects. I had a hard time falling asleep last night because I’m used to feeling very specific textures and temperatures on my skin

My stomach is so sensitive to most birth control pills. Two different forms have woken me up in the middle of the night about to vomit, even taken with food. These side effects are too disruptive to my sleep to wait out, so onto the next method of birth control for me✌️

I told an registered behavior technician about my adult diagnosis. They replied that they were taught you had to be a kid to be diagnosed🤦‍♀️

Today was my first time disclosing autism to a prospective employer. I had been volunteering for a while and had an interview to discuss a job offer. We talked over each other a few times on Zoom, but the relief was worth the awkwardness❤️

Today I randomly made small talk with an autism professional who seemed appreciative of neurodiversity. I almost told her about my autism journey. This would have been my first time disclosing to someone in person. Hopefully next time.

There's a lot of stereotypes about neurodivergent people being technophiles. I am very much NOT one. My deep dive is humans. History, sociology, the desire to better know and understand the beautifully complexity of humanity. To me, technology can never compare with humans.

This isn’t solely an issue in religious or Jewish spaces — just faith reinforces that befriending people like me is an inherently good deed because disabled people are “less fortunate.” We just get fewer opportunities to make genuine friendships & connections due to ableism.

There is so much nuance to this topic. I’m all for making friends! I know students need service hours & to complete mitzvah projects. How do we close the gap of power differentials, cultivate young disabled leaders, make inclusive spaces, and challenge preexisting beliefs?
