Lance Bouma played four full seasons for the @WHLGiants winning the Memorial Cup in 2007 as a 16-year-old and finishing his WHL career as team captain in 2010. The rugged winger went on to play 362 NHL games and continues to play in Sweden (SHL) today. #VancouverGiants

40 YEARS AGO.... The New Westminster Bruins and Portland Winter Hawks were two games into one of the greatest playoff series I have ever witnessed. After dropping the opening game 7-3 the Bruins rebounded with a convincing 6-3 victory in game two of the BEST OF NINE series.

1987-88 Game Day Program featuring 17-year-old Olie Kolzig on the cover. Kolzig joined the Bruins roster from the BCJHL (Abbotsford Falcons) and got into 18 games during the second half of the season. He was a 1st round selection of the Washington Capitals the following season.

Bill Ranford played his final game for the New Westminster Bruins on March 23, 1986. Six days later, the nineteen-year-old was playing for the Bruins again, this time in Boston, where he held the Buffalo Sabres to one goal on 26 shots to win his NHL debut 2-1.

Lineup sheet from a 1986-87 matchup with the Victoria Cougars. The WHL decided to scrap interdivisional play that season, so only five teams visited Queen's Park. The Bruins played Portland, Seattle, Spokane, Kamloops 14 times and Victoria a whopping 16 times. It was stupid.

Player of the Year 1983-84 Eldon 'Pokey' Reddick Reddick was selected WHL West Divison Player of the Year after leading the first-year Bruins to a surprising 2nd place finish. 'Pokey' played 50 games finishing with a 4.40 goals against average & .884 save percentage.

This colourized photo of Pokey Reddick (1983-84) is great, but it's inaccurate in one small detail. The helmet Reddick wore in New Westminster was in-fact a BLUE 💙 holdover from the season before when the franchise played in Nanaimo.

1983-84 New Westminster Bruins: The inaugural season for the 2nd version of the Bruins. Cliff Ronning scored 69 goals & 136 points... good enough to claim the WHL Rookie of the Year award. The 18-year-old finished 7th in league scoring & added 21 points in nine playoff games.

This is the stick that Pokey Reddick smashed over the crossbar after Craig Berube ruined his return to Queen's Park Arena with an OT goal. The Bruins edged Brandon 5-4 as 1,355 fans welcomed back last years MVP by chanting "sieve, sieve, sieve" after each New Westminster goal.

Darwin McPherson was a force on the Bruins defence from 1985 thru 1988. 'Bomber' was the last ever captain of the team and finished his career in fourth place in all-time games played. Number 27 was very much a fan favourite at Queen's Park Arena. #NewWestBruins

Cliff Ronning during a 1984-85 game at the Pacific Coliseum. This was the night that his WHL record 18 game goal scoring streak came to an end versus the Portland Winter Hawks. Ronning actually scored in the third period but the goal was disallowed for goaltender interference.
